Tournament Overview
Tournament Date: April 29, 2018
Due to space and time limitations, there will be a cap of 64 players for the tournament. This cap may increase if more machines become available, but it is unlikely to do so at this time. Registration is first come first serve and will open on February 9th, 2018 at 7PM PST. Visit www.beneficialmalfunction.com to register at this time, or check this page for alternative in-person preregistration locations at local pinball events. Registration will be fully refundable until noon PST on 4/22/2017, at which point no refunds will be offered.
The price of the tournament is $40 for entry, coindrop TBD. 100% of the tournament entry fees will be paid back to the players as prizes.
The format of the tournament is as follows:
Players will be randomly assigned 4-player groups in each round for 7 rounds of match play. Each round consists of one 4-player game on a randomly selected machine. Players will be awarded either 4, 2, 1, or 0 points depending on whether they finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th in each game.
The top 16 players will advance to a PAPA style finals round with the top 2 players from each group advancing. PAPA clearly spells out this format here: http://papa.org/learning-center/director-resources/directors/finals-formats/
Assuming full registration of 64 players, the top 16 players will be paid as follows:
1st: $560
2nd: $450
3rd: $340
4th: $280
5th-8th: $140
9th-16th: $45
An additional $100 "Flawless Victory" bounty is available to any player who attains a perfect 28 score in qualifying (good luck!).
Prizes will obviously change if the player pool is expanded, we don't reach full registration, or additional sponsors come on board.
The tournament will be worth 100% TGP per current IFPA regulations.
Emerald City Cup will start promptly at 11AM PST. Any players not there by 11:05AM will forfeit their spot and only have their entry fee refunded if another player replaces them or the tournament does not reach 48 preregistered players. Due to the format and consequent length of this tournament it is critical that we get started as soon as possible so everyone can go home at a "reasonable" hour.
Rulings will be made at the tournament by organizers Kevin Birrell and Germain Mariolle. This tournament will follow sections V-VIII of the IFPA World Championships rulebook, which can be accessed at http://www.ifpapinball.com/ifpa11/rules
A side tournament may be organized, but nothing concrete is planned yet. More details will be posted if this situation changes.
I hope you can come, it's gonna be a blast! :)
