Zach’s Birthday Pinball Tournament

EVERYONE is invited to my Birthday Pinball Tournament at Litt Pinball Bar on Sunday May 12th 2024! This tournament is featuring a NEVER BEFORE SEEN tournament (qualifying) format called “Duelist Island” and has been approved to be SANCTIONED by the IFPA for WPPRs. We will also have a DJ and other party shennanigans, please check the facebook event for more non-tournament details!

Here’s how it works:

All players are given 3 chips/markers at the start of the tournament. Participating players will be given a nametag or other visual indicator for other players to see. Once the tournament begins, any player may CHALLENGE any other player to a DUEL, as long as they are not already currently in a challenge. The player who is being CHALLENGED gets to choose either game or play order, and the other player chooses whichever the first player did not choose. Players may choose a game which is currently being played and claim a spot “on deck” for that game, but may not choose that game if there is already another duel on deck (ie, one duel currently playing AND one duel waiting, a total of 4 players).

If you win your duel, you STEAL a chip from the player you defeated. You may not challenge or be challenged by that player again. This format is a race to turn in a certain number of chips as quickly as possible! If a player loses all their chips, they are eliminated There are different parameters for different numbers of players, as follows:

< 16 Players: skip duelist island, go straight to finals
16-32 players: First 8 players to turn in 5 chips will move on to A finals. Any players with 2 or more chips remaining will move on to B finals. All other players tie for last.
33-48 players: First 16 players to turn in 5 chips move on to A finals. Any players with 2 or more chips remaining will move on to B finals. All other players tie for last.
49-64 players: First 16 players to turn in 6 chips move on to A finals. Any players with 2 or more chips remaining will move on to B finals. All other players tie for last.
65-128 players: First 16 players to turn in 7 chips move on to A finals. Any players with 3 or more chips remaining will move on to B finals. All other players tie for last.

A Finals for top 16 will be a standard PAPA Style Finals (It will be long). It will be seeded based on the order in which players turned in their chips. Games will be divided into banks of 3, and the highest seeded player in each group will pick a bank to play.
B Finals will be a standard 2 strike group elimination format.

Some Rules:
Players MAY NOT challenge or be challenged by the same player more than once
Players MAY NOT hide themselves, or hide their participation nametag/indicator at any point. Breaks to smoke, drink, bathroom etc are allowed.
Players should try to stand in pairs if they are currently involved in a challenge and on deck for a game in order to visually indicate who is available to challenge. Players may not attempt to dissuade challenges by intentionally standing in a pair when they are not actually involved in a challenge.
Players MAY NOT concede to another with the intent to help that other player reach the finals more quickly or more easily if they believe their own chances of making finals are negligible. This is considered collusion and will be disqualified. Players may not willingly give their chips to another player.

I expect this tournament to be a little crazy, and hopefully get a lot of novice players involved with competitive pinball. Please be welcoming and friendly to all the new players as you mercilessly take their tokens.

This tournament will be COMPLETELY FREE, but I will be covering IFPA fees, DJ costs, materials costs, and other things, so I will have a “pay what you want” donation available (I’m kinda broke so I’d like to not lose hundreds on this party).

More party details will be available on the facebook page. Please make sure to check it out!
