Tournament Overview
Tournament Date: January 24, 2015
Magfest (magfest.org) is a huge 4 day 24/7 event with music and gaming with an attendance of 12,000 people in 2014. This year we are hosting an IFPA pinball tournament on Friday and Saturday. Entry fees are free for the tournament. Admission to Magfest is $60 for a four day pass before 12/31, $65 after. Prizes will be in the form of Magfest dollars for use in the massive Marketplace of artists, vendors, rare gaming finds, custom made one-of-a-kind items, etc.
Format uses the Aurcade.com system used in many video gaming competitions. In a nut shell, players play as many times as they want on the tournament machines. Only a players highest score is kept for each machine. Each player receives a score on each machine when combined together creates their overall score. Scores on each machine are unique to pinball in that they are determined based on the highest score on the machine. Player scores are a percentage of the best score. Thus a player that has a score of 32,000 on a machine with a high score of 100,000 will receive 32.00 points for that machine (32,000/100,000). This makes the highest score very important as a truly great game has the potential to wipe out a lot of points for all other players in the tournament. Highly volatile until the very end of the qualifying period.
Playoffs will use a double-elimination format. Top 16 or 24 (TBD) will be in A division playoffs, next 8 or 12 (TBD) ranked below IFPA 500 will play in B division playoffs. All playoff players will receive Magfest dollars (payout schedule TBD and published on Facebook event).
