Tournament Overview

Tournament Date: November 11, 2018

LaGuardia banned pinball and insisted that the remainders of destroyed machines were donated to the World War II effort. Let's break down war machines and make pinball. Come to Woodside, Queens on Armistice Day to play pinball and promote a more peaceful world while also honoring our military veterans.

Details (subject to change):

MAIN TOURNAMENT

50% of the entry fees to the main tournament will be donated to the Global Campaign on Military Spending; check them out at demilitarize.org. The remaining 50%, less IFPA endorsement fees, will be paid out to the top four finishers.

Finances:
$10 entry fee per player, $5 is donated to GCOMS, $4 enters the prize pool, $1 per player goes to IFPA endorsement. $1 single game entry rebuys will be offered with 50¢ to the prize pool and 50¢ to the charity. Coin drop is not included in the entry fee.

First place wins 40% of the prize pool
Second wins 30%
Third wins 20%
Fourth wins 10%

Format:
Unlimited entry best game format with 95% modified decay scoring. If all 8 machines are in competition working order, seven will be used for the main tournament and each player's best five scores will count toward their qualifying score card.

Playoffs:
Group matchplay format with PAPA scoring will be contested among the top 4 or 8 qualifiers depending on participation.

SIDE TOURNAMENT

Finances:
$5 entry fee earns you three game tickets. Show your military ID or discharge papers to receive one free entry. Additional entries may be bought for $2 per game. 50% of all entry fees for the side tournament will benefit Puppies Behind Bars; check them out at https://puppiesbehindbars.com/. Payout will be winner take all (of the prize pool) or a 70/30 split for the top 2 players depending on the size of the prize pool and number of entrants. Decision will be made by the tournament director on the spot. The side tournament will have no IFPA endorsement.

Format:
Unlimited entry best game or goal-based (TBD) on a single game.

Finals:
The players with the top 4 or 8 scores or goal completions, depending on participation, will contest a single game of group matchplay (bracketed if there are 8 players) on the side tournament machine.

FINE PRINT

All rules decisions will be made by the tournament director according to PAPA/IFPA tournament rules: https://www.ifpapinball.com/rules/. Because I will be directing my first tournament and organizing an event, I don't think I will play in the main tournament, but I may try to enter the side tournament. If I choose to play in either, I will deputize another tournament director present to make decisions as my proxy to make rulings while I'm playing and to make rulings on my own games.

All players will be asked to recognize that this event is designed to promote peace. Aggressive behavior will be unwelcome. Frustration is real and no one is immune, but as the purpose of the event is to promote peaceful actions and thinking, a peaceful demeanor will be appreciated. Any player exhibiting aggression toward pinball machines, the space or other humans may be disqualified from the tournament and/or removed from the venue at the discretion of the tournament director or the bar staff without warning or notice.
