Tournament Overview

Tournament Date: January 21, 2024

Details are below, per the directly quoted email received from the IFPA Women's Advisory Board on 11/13/23 with format/rules:

IFPA registration: Your championship event must be submitted to the IFPA calendar at least 30 days prior to the championship date. Please see How to Submit Tournaments for additional information and make sure to submit your event by December 21st! Additionally, in order for a player to be eligible to participate in the state/provincial championship, they must be registered with the IFPA. Players can tell if they are registered by checking their player profile for a green checkmark next to the word “Registered”. If a player is not registered, they simply need to fill out the Your IFPA Profile form on the IFPA website. Please make sure your players are registered by the end of the 2023 calendar year; we need their email address in order for you to reach out to them regarding this event and other future opportunities.

Seeding: Our complex approach to seeding was definitely a pain point last year. Combining two sets of standings will always be somewhat difficult, but the IFPA Women’s Board is working to put together a template/guide with clear instructions on how to approach seeding that we will send out to all organizers in the next few weeks. Please note that this year, odd seeds will be based on women’s-only event performance and even seeds will be based on open event performance; this is a change from last year intended to incentivize organizing and participating in women’s events.

Game selection: Please review the WNACS rules section on Head-to-Head Single Elimination format, as rules related to game selection have changed for both open NACS and WNACS. Rather than selecting one game, playing it, and then having the losing player select the next game, contestants will now each select three games before they start their round. If the game availability at your venue allows for it, contestants should each select one machine from each era (Old, Mid, and New); however, tournament organizers have the authority to not have an era breakdown for the event, in which case the choices of each player at the start of the match will be from the entire field of available machines. Should a Game 7 be necessary, the higher seeded player can choose from any game they have not already played in that round, or they can choose position on a game of their opponent’s choosing that has not already been played in that round.

WNACS North American Championship: We are excited to announce that this year, the winner of each women’s state/provincial championship will be invited to participate in the Women’s North American Championship, to be held at Wizard’s World Arcade in Fort Wayne, IN, on March 22, 2024. If the winner cannot attend, the runner-up will be invited to participate. The weekend of March 22-24th will include the Women’s North American Championship and the Women’s World Championship, as well as satellite events, to ensure there are plenty of opportunities to compete throughout the weekend.
